Ye process mitochondria me hoti hai. Fatty acid step by step breakdown hote hain into Acetyl-CoA. Har cycle me 2-carbon units nikalte hain. Acetyl-CoA Krebs cycle me enter karke ATP banata hai. Isi wajah se fats sabse zyada energy (9 kcal/gm) dete hain.
Ketone Body Formation
Jab glucose kam hota hai (fasting, starvation, uncontrolled diabetes), liver me Acetyl-CoA se ketone bodies bante hain (acetoacetate, β-hydroxybutyrate, acetone). Ye brain aur muscles ke liye alternate fuel hote hain.
Biosynthesis of Fatty Acids
Extra glucose jab glycolysis ke through Acetyl-CoA banata hai, to wo cytoplasm me fatty acid synthesis ke liye use hota hai. Ye mainly liver, adipose tissue, lactating mammary glands me hota hai.
